Dante

A traveler because he was expelled from his homeland, an exile, a pilgrim, he was also able to transform this condition into an opportunity to know, meet and tell men and stories …

And it was precisely in the years of exile that Dante made his greatest journey, the one that, in the form of a vision, will take him to visit Hell, Purgatory and Paradise. Born in Florence in 1265 under the constellation of Gemelli, Dante Alighieri, the son of a noble but not well-to-do family, studied in Florence and Bologna, knew the literary, scientific, theological and philosophical arts and knowledge of the time.

At 18 he meets Beatrice Portinari, whom he will love for all his life and to whom he will dedicate the Vita Nova, a poem in verse and prose. Brilliant and versatile intellectual, engaged in politics, Guelph of the White faction, in 1302, while in Rome on the embassy, he was sentenced to death in absentia by the Black faction that had taken power in Florence. Forced into exile he will ask for hospitality from the great lords of the time, visiting the courts of Verona, Forlì and Lunigiana.
